9ice and wife at the 2009 Hiphop Award in Abuja |
Nigerian born singer, 9ice and his wife, Toni Payne has decided to call off their widely celebrated marriage. In a statement sent to www.gistmaster.com by Ayeni Adekunle, the spokesperson for 9ice, the seperation is made official to prevent unnccessary rumour.
"The couple have agreed to separate for a while, even though they continue to remain good friends and business partners.Their baby Zion will reside with Toni for now" the statement reads in part.
The statement also stated that "This is a very very tough decision for the couple, and it’s a tough, even trying time for the young partnership we all admire so much"
" And they’re even the more constrained to make this announcement; knowing it will shatter many of their fans, and admirers inside and outside the country"
"But they have both agreed to be responsible about the development, and make public what is necessary, to avoid unnecessary speculations, and rumours"
"And it is their wish that we all respect their privacy at this period.
For now, neither 9ice nor Toni will be granting any press interviews on this matter"

It's indeed sad...In spite of the fact that 9ice learnt alot from Iya Agba, did he not learn how to make a marriage survive....Like celebrities abroad we have seen TImaya and Empress, Fred Amata and Agatha and much more. If we must copy Oyinbos must we copy this too? |

Why? Why? This is certainly not a pleasant piece of news. Much as i don't want to heap the blame on the doorstep of 9ice, i wonder if he is truly a '9ice' man at home. And again, was Payne a pain in the life of 9ice while the short marriage lasted? Only God knows the truth. But i personally cherish their courage to make it public, unlike some other celebrities, before the press could begin to feast on their crashed marriage.
