A prominent member of Nigeria’s ruling party (PDP) and former Chairman of Nigeria Port Authority (NPA),Chief Bode George has been sentenced to jail based on corruption charges leveled against him.
George and five other former members of the board have been standing trial for the various corruption charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Commission. In what could be the termed as the end of the case at the Lagos High Court,Justice Olubunmi Oyewole sentenced the accused to two years imprisonment.The ex-board members were charged with a 68 count charge over fraud amounting to about N85 Billion (Naira).
Mr.Festus Keyamo, who stood in for the prosecution (EFCC) described the Judgement as a welcome development for democracy and anti-corruption in Nigeria.
