DAMOLA

The Model of Africa search has begun and it will be holding on the 18th of June 2011by 6pm at Ember Creek, 32, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Laogs.

The aim of the Competition is to serve as a platform that will help to catapult the careers of young African men who have unique modeling features. One of the objectives of this event is to organise an excellent competition which does not amount to the typical “winner gets all” situation.
The competition has been structured in a way that other contestants also get great exposure, complimentary gifts and a most memorable experience! The Model of Africa also affords the contestants the opportunity of sharpening their skills, building great portfolios by working with the best hands of photographers, designers, and stylists and the opportunity of being discovered by international scouts. Not to mention the fact that the event ultimately creates great industry networking opportunities for participants. As a climax of all the foregoing this competition will also serve as a vehicle to discover that guy with star quality who shall qualify to compete with winners from other parts of the world at the prestigious Mister International Competition in Singapore later this year.
Sponsoring designers and official fashion retailers for the event include Mai Atafo Inspired, Okunoren Twins, David Wej, Etcetera and B-Easy. Styling by Tayo Shonekan of Aimas, and Blush Beauty is the official beauty brand.

INSIDE PATIENCE JONATHAN's FASHION CABINET:THE WOMEN BEHIND HER HOT NEW LOOK

By Niyi Tabiti

It was as if Nigeria's First Lady, Mrs Patience Goodluck Jonathan was waiting for the presidential campaign and announcement of results to be over before unveiling her brand new look.

On the day of the inauguration, most Nigerians saw their first lady in another light. She was looking , more than ever before, like a sweet sixteen. She's got the true shape of an African woman and the women behind her new look helped unveil the heavenly beauty.

At a small editorial meeting of Gistmaster, we decided to caption this week's cover story as "Patience Jonathan's Fashion Cabinet". Talking about some of the women behind the First lady's hot new look.

enjoy.

BANKE MESHIDA-LAWAL: A top make-up artist, Banke Meshida-Lawal got the super  deal as Mrs. Jonathan’s official make-up artist. It was obvious that Banke did her job well as because she turned Nigeria’s first lady into a model with her brand of BMPRO product.

Sources said Banke got the deal through Hajia Bola Shagaya, a close pal to Mrs. Jonathan.

[caption id="attachment_5784" align="alignleft" width="306" caption="Banke Meshida"][/caption]

Banke started make-up as a hobby during her days at the University of Lagos. During her stay at Moremi hall, most girls wanted her to do their make up for a fee so she turned it into business.

Banke’s first major job was at Flamingos Restaurant, Victoria Island, when she handed make up at the first Tiffany Amber fashion show.

In an interview with Niyi Tabiti in 2003, Banke said she was introduced to the owner of Tiffany Amber by daughters of Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, the Osile of Egba oke-Ona. They told Folake about Banke their friend, who knows a lot about Make up.

Eventually, she handled the make-up for the models.

Since then, Banke has not looked back.Making money by handling jobs involving companies, high net worth personalities, brides and also; selling her brand of make up products. She also train people.

RUTH OSIME: If you think all Ruth Osime did during President Goodluck Jonathan's inauguration was only dancing with Wale Babalakin (SAN) and get praises from Sir Victor Uwaifo at the inauguration ball, then you are missing it. She led the photo shoot and THISDAY Style interview with Mrs. Goodluck Jonathan

Sources told gistmaster.com that Ruth is a key member in Mrs. Jonathan's fashion cabinet. An impeccable source told gistmasteer.com that “Ruth Osime did the styling. Many people gave her thumbs up for a job well done after the First Lady's interview was published. The woman was looking off the hook.

You should give her the credit. She is responsible for the new look, she and TY Bello"

Ruth is the editor of Thisday Style, one of Nigeria’s most widely read style magazine. Though publication remain  an insert inside Thisday (Sunday) publication, it has become a reference point to many people who want to go into the business of magazine publishing.

[caption id="attachment_5791" align="alignleft" width="334" caption="TY BELLO"][/caption]

TY BELLO: Toyin Sokefun Bello (TY),a photographer and award winning musician is as important as every other member of Mrs. Jonathan‘s fashion and style cabinet. She ‘composed’ the new look of the first lady with her camera and a bit of photo editing tools.

A stylist based in London told gistmaster.com “I respect TY Bello. The way Mrs. Jonathan’s photo shoot turned out shows she’s a genius. If the hair styling and make-up is right, what if the photography is wrong?” The stylist asks rhetorically. “But in this situation, Ty Bello brought out the best in the woman. Everything was just perfect”.

PELEBO BANIGO: Pelebo Is another wealthy Nigerian woman who is highly connected in the corridors of power. Pelebo, wife of a former bank chairman, Chief Ebitimi Banigo is one of the closest to Nigeria’s first lady. When President went on official visits to the United Nations last year, Pelebo was one of those that accompanied Mrs. Jonathan to New York. She was also with her durning the Presidential retreat at Obudu Ranch.

Sources told gistmaster.com that she is in charge of Mrs. Jonathan’s diet. She is working towards ensuring that the woman keep in  shape.

TINUKE: She is one  Banke Meshida's most trust hands. She handled the make up for the Thisday photo shoot on behalf of her boss. Banke did the inauguration make up but she travelled to Dubai for the wedding of Solape Agagu and Brian Hammond in Dubai. So, she delegated the job.

[caption id="attachment_5794" align="alignleft" width="320" caption="Hajia Bola Shagaya"][/caption]

Bola Shagaya: A socialite and businesswoman, Hajia Bola Shagaya is often regarded by Nigerian tabloid as the richest woman in the country. Even if that is in contention, what can not be contended is her closeness to Nigeria’s first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

Fashionable and well endowned, Shagaya is not new to the corridors of power. She had been friends to past first ladies, especially late Mrs. Maryam Babangida.(See her with the babangida's at Seun Fagbohungbe and Murtala Raji Rasaki's wedding)

Shagaya made money doing business in the  photo material business,Oil and stocks. She was on the board of intercity Bank, alongside Mohammed Babangida.

Sources told gistmaster.com that Shagaya knows more when it come to Jeweleries. As a friend, she helps the first lady with the right choice of jewellery that would sit well on her.

HAIR- Tips Your Stylist Won’t Tell You

Weaves get a bad rep for the damage they can cause. But if you properly care for your hair underneath, weaves can be a great way to add fullness and length, change up your look or give your natural hair a break from styling. Follow these simple steps and you’ll minimize damage and optimize growth!

- If you can’t afford it, don’t wear it. Synthetic hair might seem cost-friendly but it can make your natural hair brittle and even irritate your scalp. Look out for brands that claim to be 100% human hair but are really mixed with synthetic fibers.
- Condition! Condition! Condition! It’s crucial that you deep condition your hair before attaching a weave. Apply your conditioner to damp hair then sit under a hooded dryer wearing a plastic cap for 20 minutes. No hooded dryer? No problem. Leave the conditioner in for 45 minutes to 1 hour with just the plastic cap. Then rinse.
-Avoid glue-in weaves. Cornrows aren’t only for full-weaves and can look just as natural as glue-ins. Small and intricately placed braids can blend in seamlessly with loose natural strands.

-If it hurts, get out of there! Tracks should be sewn in firmly but comfortably. You should not leave the salon in pain. Keep a weaving thread and needle handy at home for any tracks that come loose. It’s not worth losing your hair.

-Add a net. Attaching a weaving net can relieve some of the tension. You can even have the tracks sewn onto the net instead of your actual hair. This makes getting to your scalp when washing easier and makes weave removal simple.
-Wash it. Part your weave into four quadrants. Create loose knots and secure with clips to reduce tangling. Use a spray bottle with diluted shampoo and diluted conditioner to reduce buildup. Saturate each section then massage product into scalp and hair as you would your natural hair (using your fingertips, not nails and carefully maneuvering between tracks and under braids). When conditioning, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle. Rinse section by section, loosely wrapping back up in a knot when moving onto the next. When all product is removed, create four braids. Finally, sit under a hooded dryer so that scalp and hair can thoroughly dry.
-Don’t use product. Oils, crèmes and hairsprays will weigh down your weave and cause build up which can lead to odors! Aerosol sprays can dry out the strands. If you invest in a quality weave, you won’t need to apply product between washes. If you have a curly weave, a dollop of leave in condition on the damp hair will control frizz.
-Don’t use heat. Steer clear of curling and flat irons. Bantu knots or jumbo braids at night can create beautiful curls and waves in the morning. Just lightly finger-comb. The less you manipulate your weave, the less stress you’re applying to your real hair.

-Oil your edges and scalp. Rosemary herb combined with an oil like jojoba or almond can condition hair and stimulate growth. Mix in a squirt bottle so that you can direct the oil to your scalp and avoid the contact with your weave.
-Take a break. Giving your hair a rest from weaves doesn’t necessarily mean your locks have to go from long and curly to cropped and relaxed overnight. If you want to keep up one consistent look even in between weaves, try faux ponies or half-wigs. Your strands will thank you later!
