BEAUTY - Sweat-Proof Makeup Secrets

Warm weather is a beauty gift and a curse. The plus side? Heated temperatures can serve as inspiration to try bright colors and golden shimmery looks that glisten in the sun. The down side is these sizzling looks can quickly take a turn for the worse as a result of perspiration. Below are some useful tips that can help you get through the day.

There is no worse look than streams of running foundation topped with sweat bubbles. Runny makeup is a beauty faux pas that with the right tools can be easily avoided.

- Keep shine controllers handy.
A smooth, matte makeup look won’t last long if you’re going to be exposed to the sun or partaking in any kind of physical activity. That’s why shine reducing tools like blotting paper and oil-control rolls should be a mainstay in your purse or everyday travel beauty kit. If you prefer not to blot your makeup, try a shine control moisturizer or gel.

- Don’t shy away from tints and stains.
Invest in a few lip and cheek tints or stains to extend the life of your makeup while on the go. They last longer than a regular blush shade or lip color. For the lips, try to avoid creamy lipsticks. If you do rock them, use a sealant over the hue. Don’t own any cheek tints? Try using lipstick or a lip tint to do the trick.

-Primers are a girl’s best friend.
If you want long-lasting makeup, you have to use makeup primer. Not only do they help makeup stay on your face longer, they prep the skin by creating a matte, oil-absorbing palette before application.

- Embrace tinted moisturizer.
Sometimes a fully made-up face can actually feel too heavy especially in superhot weather. For a lighter formula with good coverage, use a tinted moisturizer.

- Oil-free is the way to be.
Substitute oil-based products with liquid, gel and powder formulas. For eyes, many of the kohl pencils are wax-based which melt or are more prone to running in humid weather. To combat this, opt for gel and liquid eyeliners. The same applies for foundation and concealer. Look for oil-free cosmetics with ingredients such as silica, a mineral that reduces shine.

[caption id="attachment_5389" align="alignleft" width="478" caption="KEL"][/caption]

M.et.al Entertainment rolls out the drums for Kel again following a brief hiatus and her departure from her former label Capital Hill Music where she released her debut album “The Investment” which had her hit “Waa Wa Alright”.
Following the acceptance of her first Single ‘Waa Wa Alright’ which got instant acceptance from the media and fans, the Abia born Kelechi Ohia has refused to let go of her throne which many fans and critics feel she has lost to other young promising acts that debuted after her.

During her break she enjoyed a successful campaign with Haircare Manufacturing giants Soulmate Industries Ltd as their Ambassador, a deal which kept her in the face and minds of her fans that kept wondering if she’ll ever make a come back musically.
After much criticism and troubles, Kelechi is not throwing in the towel just yet; she and her M.et.al camp have released materials that have introduced a new dimension to her brand.

Her new singles “Super Woman ft talented vocalist Lami, “Shayo & Move” and “Mu Kulu” with a new brand direction that’s expected to polish the Rappers image, she’s heading for a big fight in the league to once again become music fans sweetheart.
Kel has definitely evolved following her new releases “Mu Kulu”, “Shayo & Move” and “Super Woman” teaming up with producers Samklef and Sleekamo.

She has thrown her weight around her feminine side; brought the sex appeal to her vocals with a sassy approach and her new brand direction.
Taking back the spot she left two years ago is a priority for the Rapper and her camp, and she wants to be Music fans sweetheart once again as she is determined to prove critics wrong and become a strong brand among other female MCs in the Nigerian Hip-hop scene is an apt way to describe her.
In her words “I believe rap music is not only a way of expression but a tool to appreciate and tell it as it is”.
Inspired by personal experiences, People and figments of her imagination, Kel writes music people can enjoy again and relate to. Kel makes her music how and when she wants to. She’s challenging herself, experimenting with different sounds, more wordplay and flows.

TOP AMALA JOINTS IN IBADAN

[caption id="attachment_5381" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Pepper"][/caption]

Going about the raves of delicacies, Amala is a food everyone has come to reckon with especially in the South-West.

Though believed to be the favorite food of the indigenes of Ibadan, it is still loved by Yoruba majority. Amala could either be white, brown or even black in colour and can either be made from yam or plantain which is sun-dried and grounded.  It comes out in a floury form and it is called yam flour or ELUBO in Yoruba. It is eaten with ‘ewedu’ or ‘abula’.

INASTRANTE: This food joint has been in existence since the early 70s.It is located beside the cultural centre and not too far from the state secretariat. Inastrante was founded by Ahaja Muslinat Akanke Tijani of blessed memory.

It is tagged as the most popular of all. This joint is managed by the late Alhaja’s children. Mr Tijani, one of her sons told Gistmaster.com that they are patronized by the high and mighty in the society. Inastrante, is endeared to the peoples’ mind because of its great hospitality.

OSE OLOHUN: It is located along the BODIJA/UI road. It’s popularly called Skye Bank because of its very close location to SKYE BANK Bodija.

Owned by an Alhaja, who is popularly called by the name of the canteen, the food is lovely and the smallest amount of meat goes for #50. The place is patronized with its closest customers, the bankers and even students of the University of Ibadan. The Alhaja’s children also help in the management of the canteen.

MAMA OPE: Owned by Alhaja Silifat Ogunleye,it  is known for its classy reception. This amala joint has corporate waiters and they are easily identified in their lovely uniforms. They appear well trained and very accommodating.

The joint venue is divided into 3 areas, namely: the VIP lounge, Floor and Hall. A customer chooses wherever he or she feels like. formerly located at Mokola main market , it now boasts of a bigger, finer and more accommodating place at Jenbewon area of Mokola. Their food is prepared strictly with Gas Cooker. Alhaja’s children also help in the management of the canteen.

Owned by Alhaja Bola Yusuf Odolaye who drives a Honda Odyssey, Ola Mummy Food Canteen also has an extension of her shop at the state secretariat.

This joint formerly occupied a medium shop at Ojurin side but now relocated to a nearby but bigger shop that provides a big parking space, this signifies the high patronage she gets. Reliable sources reveal that her children are abroad.

IYA ADURA: Though owned by Iya Adura, it is popularly known as SOCIAL because of its location inside the SOCIAL WELFARE compound in the state secretariat behind FIRST BANK in Bodija.

This joint used to be in a small building built with planks of wood but due to the level of patronage and the kind of personality that frequents the place, a new building was constructed. Despite the kind of personalities that goes there, the joint is a place for every one with different pocket sizes because their meat sells for as low as #50.

ALABEDE: This joint has been in existence for a very long time. It is located along the Agbowo-Ojoo Expressway in Ibadan.

Due to this location, the joint gives easy access to people travelling to Oyo. Their main means of cooking is the local kitchen utensils .People believe that no matter the time of the day, one will always get food to eat once you have your money.

MAMA ANAT: This joint derived it name from its location beside the department of anatomy inside the University of Ibadan. Mostly frequented by lecturers, students and non-academic staffs of the varsity , she cooks well with her adogan and stove. She manages the place with her children.

BEAUTY - BAD SKIN HABITS

Breakouts , uneven skin tone, blemishes , black heads are a various skin disorders we tend to battle on a daily . Asides from hormone imbalance or bad diet habits, there are some other habits that we need to stay clear of for that airbrushed look . Here are a few of these habits after crack.

NOT WASHING YOUR FACE AT NIGHT
Letting skin marinate in makeup—not to mention a day's worth of oil buildup—can lead to clogged pores and zits, especially if you're prone to acne. According to skin experts , your body temperature increases slightly when you sleep, which can enhance absorption of whatever's on the surface. So you really want only beneficial ingredients on your face when you sleep.

 DRINKING TOO MUCH
Now, we're not taking away all your fun—you can still have a glass of something. But drink more than one cocktail a day, and your skin suffers. Alcohol increases the level inflammatory agents in the bloodstream—which can hasten skin sagging over time.

SKIPPING THE GYM
Along with lifting your mood, exercise increases blood flow to the skin, causing a healthy-looking flush. Both immediately and over time, it has been shown to decrease tension, which can result in better skin. When you're stressed, cortisol levels rise, and that leads to acne and other skin aggravations. Lessen your cortisol spikes, and your skin will become smoother and clearer. (Of course, you should wash your face immediately after that workout.)

SMOKING
Like you need another reason to quit? Seriously—it's time. Because if you keep smoking, you'll not only damage your health, but you'll develop more and more deep wrinkles and blotchier skin tone. In fact, every decade of smoking results in a perceived extra 2.5 years of age, according to research published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

TANNING
Bronzer? Fine. Self-tanner? Fine. The real thing? So not fine. In trying to protect itself from continued exposure to the sun, skin thickens and produces melanin, the pigment that darkens cells. Any pigment change from UVA or UVB light can cause premature aging and increase the likelihood of skin cancer. And tanning beds can be even worse, since they emit concentrated UVA light, which penetrates deeper than the combination of UVA and UVB rays found in sunlight (Indeed: They've recently been considered to be on par with arsenic and mustard gas in the top cancer risk category.) Be sure to protect yourself by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 every day, and if you're in the sun, reslather it every two hours.

CONSTANT PHONE CHATTER
Resting your chin or cheek against a phone—cell or old-school—can lead to breakouts, whether or not the phone is clean and bacteria-free. Just leaning your face against it can cause friction, occlusion, and heat, all of which can make you break out. If your chatting habit is too ingrained to shake, consider a headset.

USING DIRTY MAKEUP BRUSHES
Why bother, you think. Here's why: Skip washing your brushes and you could wind up with muddied colors, clogged pores, and bacterial infections. Once every three weeks, lather brushes with a gentle shampoo, rinse well, and let them dry overnight or use wipes. Another option- Clinique The Brush Collection -they're treated with a microbial solution that destroys germs. (You still have to wash them, but only about once a month.)

EATING JUNK FOOD
Conventional wisdom used to be that diet didn't affect your complexion. But sorry—no more. A study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that people who replaced processed carbs with high-protein foods and whole grains broke out less. The reason? "High-glycemic foods cause your blood sugar to rise, triggering a surge of insulin. The insulin stimulates oil-producing hormones called androgens, leaving you with pimples. Cut the junk, and you could see an improvement in acne in about six weeks. Instead, reach for snacks like peanut butter, nuts, and avocado—these healthy fats provide nutrients for the hair, skin, nails, and basic metabolism.

SKIPPING BROAD-SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN
The best way to keep your skin from getting wrinkled, saggy, and speckled is sunscreen, SPF 30 at the minimum. Broad-spectrum formulas (meaning they shield against both UVA and UVB rays) with Mexoryl or Helioplex offer the longest-lasting protection. Apply a whole tablespoon to your face, and the equivalent of a shot glass on your body. For workdays, reapply before your commute home if the sun is still out—even if you'll be in a car. And for days when you'll be outside for an extended period of time, reapply every two hours. We know it's a pain, but come on—you'll get the last laugh instead of the first laugh lines.

POPPING ZITS
It's tempting. But the reality is that squeezing a pimple just pushes bacteria deeper into the pores, causing inflammation, infection, and scarring—and almost doubling the zit's life span (from about one week to two). Napalming it with the harshest chemicals in the bathroom won't help, either. Treating any breakout with too much benzoyl peroxide damages the skin around the spot and can cause more irritation. Instead here's what you should do: Use a spot treatment with no more than 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide at night, and reapply it to major zits in the morning. Try Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment For persistent acne, a prescription retinoid, such as Retin-A, helps prevent blocked pores—but doctors warn it can exacerbate the redness of existing pimples, so avoid slathering it over full-blown ones.

IGNORING YOUR NECK AND CHEST
Skin care doesn't stop at your jawline. These areas are almost always exposed, and yet they rarely receive same level of hydration and sun protection as the face. But the skin there is more delicate and just as vulnerable to photoaging. The fix is simple: The next time you apply serum, face cream, or sunscreen or give yourself an exfoliating treatment, extend everything down to your décolletage.

STAYING UP LATE
Sleep deprivation causes stress, which can aggravate all skin conditions, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis.Sleep is also the time when your body repairs the damage from the day, and interrupting that process will slow down cell turnover. In the short term, this can mess with the way blood flows to the skin, which can make your complexion sallow.

PICKING THE WRONG PRODUCTS
Using stuff that's wrong for your skin type is a hugely common mistake. Here's what you should know:

OILY SKIN: Choose a cleanser with salicylic acid, such as Bioré Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser. Fight shine with an oil-free lotion, such as Vichy Normaderm Pro Mat Ultra-Mattifying Oil-Free Lotion SPF 15. Rub on a chemical exfoliant such as glycolic acid once a week. Try Avon Anew Clinical Advanced Retexturizing Peel.

SENSITIVE SKIN: Wash with a milky cleanser such as Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. Use a fragrance-free, nonirritating sunscreen such as Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer Sensitive Skin SPF 15. Look for anti-aging creams with added hydrators such as hyaluronic acid and shea butter, like Replenix Serum CF. and Estée Lauder Time Zone Line and Wrinkle Reducing Creme SPF 15.

COMBINATION SKIN: Choose a foaming cleanser for oily skin. Use a lightweight moisturizer, like H2O+ Face Oasis Hydrating Lotion SPF 30, but dab a thicker one, like Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cream, on dry spots.

DRY SKIN: Nonsoap creamy cleansers, like Eucerin Sensitive Skin Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, don't strip away protective oils. A moisturizer with trehalose, such as Shiseido The Skincare Day Moisture Protection SPF 15 or Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer, will prevent tightness. Apply an anti-aging treatment with retinol every other day (daily use could aggravate dryness). Or switch to a cream with kinetin or the Matrixyl—they're less drying than retinoids.

OVERLOOKING MOLES
A study conducted by the National Cancer Institute showed that fifty percent more melanoma cases occurred in women ages 15 to 39 in 2004 than in 1980. The lesson here? Everyone needs to get a mole screening with a dermatologist once a year—and you should also check yourself every month, remembering to examine less-obvious places such as your scalp, the soles of your feet, and under your nails.

NEGLECTING YOUR EYES
Not only is the skin around your eyes thinner than practically anywhere else on the body, it's also the victim of a lot of abuse. First, resolve to stop rubbing. Every time you do, you risk breaking delicate blood vessels, which leads to darkening, dulling, and thickening of the surrounding skin. Then make sure you always apply an anti-aging eye cream. If retinol is too strong, consider peptides try Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum  or Baumann's current favorite ingredient for the eye area, zinc (found in Relastin Eye Silk. It's been shown to increase elastin production, which can reduce crepiness.

OVEREXFOLIATING

Sorry—while squeaky-clean pores may initially feel good, "harsh cleansing or too much exfoliating can actually exacerbate oil production and worsen breakouts by spreading bacteria," Fein says. A gentle alternative: Use a glycolic peel, such as Avon Anew Clinical Advanced Retexturizing Peel, three times a week.

OVERLOADING ON PRODUCTS
Most people just add things without checking to see whether they're duplicating ingredients or realizing that some aren't compatible.Sometimes, active ingredients cancel one another out—Other times, they double up and cause irritation or skin damage. Negative interactions are most likely to happen if someone is treating different problems at the same time, such as sun-damaged skin and adult acne, and the ingredients are either too harsh together or incompatible. The biggest culprits: retinol, glycolic acid (aka AHA's), vitamin C, and benzoyl peroxide—avoid layering them, or at least try to use them at different times of day.

NO TO DIRTY HAIR TOOLS

Asides keeping your hair and scalp clean, it is also important to keep your hair tools clean. Hair tools, such as combs and brushes, collect oil, dirt and dead skin cells, and should be cleansed often. Scarves, caps and satin pillow cases should also be kept clean.

Freshly washed hair should always be styled with clean hair tools, followed by the use of a freshly cleaned scarf, cap or pillow case. Hair accessories such as elastic bands, hair clips, barrettes and headbands should also be kept free from oil and dirt.
Oils, dirt, and dead skin cells left on hair styling tools and accessories are deposited right back into your hair and scalp, which pretty much defeats the purpose of washing. Using dirty hair tools can cause your clean hair to look dull and dirty. You can keep them clean by using shampoo or even conditioner.

-First, pick all of the shed hair out of the comb or brush.

-Next, wet your comb or brush with warm water, then grab that old bottle of shampoo or conditioner that didn’t work so well on your hair, and pour a little onto your comb or brush. You can use the comb to gently scrub the bristles of the brush, or even scrub two brushes together to get them clean.

-You can also soak your comb or brush in a sink filled with hot sudsy water for about 10 to 15 minutes, or even overnight to loosen oil and dirt before scrubbing. After washing and rinsing, place your tools on a towel to dry (place the brush with the bristles down). Hair clips, barrettes, and plastic headbands can also be added to the sudsy water and rinsed and set aside to dry.

-Scarves, satin caps, pillow cases, elastic bands, and headbands made of material can be put in the laundry, or washed by hand in the sink also using shampoo or conditioner. Not only does cleaning these items prevent dirt and oil from depositing right back into your hair, it also keeps the dirt and oil off your face which can cause breakouts.

Just as you have a routine when it comes to cleaning your scalp and hair, you should make cleaning your hair tools, especially those that you use most often, a part of your hair care regimen.
