THE ROAD TO NIGERIA NEXT SUPERMODEL 2011 CONTEST...

On 20 November 2011, all roads will lead to Nigeria Next Supermodel contest. To say, Joan Okorodudu, the 53 year old founder/creative director of the annual model contest is excited is an understatement. 
 This year's edition is going to be bigger and better, she said, at a press conference that took place this October at GET Arena, Lekki.
 This year, several notable brands have pulled their weights behind Nigeria Next Supermodel contest. The sponsors include Swarovski,First Group, Virgin Atlantic,L'oreal Paris,Red Bull, Bank of Industry (BOI) and others.

 The organizers also used the occasion for the final selection of the contestants.Past contestants/winners of NNSM such as Aishetu Bello, Bunmi Ademokoya and others have taken part in various international fashion shows in different parts of the world.

HOW BABA SUWE, POPULAR YORUBA ACTOR WAS ARRESTED BY NDLEA FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

 Baba Suwe, the popular Yoruba actor was yesterday night arrested by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for being in possession substance suspected to be hard drugs.

Gistmaster gathered that the veteran comedian was on his way to France, where he was billed to attend the naming ceremony of an Air France staff. Baba Suwe allegedly concealed the cocaine in his stomach but it was detected by the scanning machine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. 

 Before now, the actor has denied his involvement in the illicit trade of hard dugs trafficking.

 Nigerian actors who have been arrested for drug trafficking in the past include Uche Odoputa, Taiwo Asanat Akinwade popularly known as Yetunde Wunmi.Another popular Yoruba actor was said to have almost lost his life when the drugs he was carrying in his stomach bursted. Till date the actor look like a shadow of his former self.

Born in Lagos in 1958,Baba Suwe started his acting career more than 30 years ago. He lost his wife, Moladun kekelewu in 2009.

CELEBRITY DESIGNER MUDI TAKES MAGAZINE TO COURT OVER GAY ACCUSATION

For accusing Nigeria’s foremost designer, Clement Enajemo, owner of pan African clothing line, Mudi, of homosexuality, the Lagos based designer who designs clothes for artistes, celebrities and powerful people in the society, has concluded plans to take a Lagos based soft sell magazine, Hints, to court.
 Mudi’s media company, Media Image Managers, in a statement released in Lagos disclosed of plans by the Delta state born designer to make the magazine pay dearly for what he described as “a gross defamation of a straight, hardworking Nigerian.”
The designer’s publicist statement condemned in strong terms the publication by Hints magazine describing it as “not only malicious but the highest attempt at mischief. Mudi is pained about this report which is obvious, an attempt to tarnish his good name and reputation. The puzzle for Mudi and his entire family, friends, clients and associates, is what may be the motive behind this hate campaign.
 “Consequently, Mudi has contacted his lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo and the magazine will be taken to court in the next couple of days. This kind of killer journalism should be discouraged by any well meaning person and that is why as a law abiding citizen, Mudi is exploring the legal means to seek redress for this damage done to his person.”
The statement accused the magazine and writer of the false and malicious story of trying to bring down the designer. “African society frowns at homosexuality, and so to accuse a real Urhobo man, a successful and happily married man for that matter, of that social stigma is an attempt to bring him to serious disrepute before the Nigerian society and the world at large. And that is why, Mudi is resolved to see this matter to a logical conclusion to serve as a deterrent to anybody that takes delight in maligning his fellow individual. The magazine has been given seven working days to retract the story, publish full page apologies in national dailies or risk going to court. That is the situation.”
 For records purposes, the statement said, “Mudi is not gay, Mudi is happily married, he has never in his life contemplated on being a gay even though he is one who believes every man has the choice to be what he wants to be, but being a gay has never crossed his mind.
 He has had no relationship with anybody accused of homosexuality either in the past or at the moment, so it beats him that someone just woke up from his sleep and decided to concoct such a wicked lie that could only come from an evil mind, against an innocent man.”       

LATEST NEWS:COURT REMANDS GBENGA DANIEL IN EFCC CUSTODY TILL FRIDAY

  Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State was today arraigned before an Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta on 16 count charges of corruption. The EFCC who made the charges against Daniel said he used his position as a former state chief executive to steal and divert public funds for person use.
According to what Gistmater gathered from EFCC
 Otunba Gbenga Daniel allegedly converted the sum of $3 million(a dollar is now N158 to $1) from the domiciliary account of Ogun state with FCMB (First City Monument Bank) into personal use.
 EFCC said Daniel used the money to buy equity stake in a private company, Glanvill Enthoven & company Nigeria Limited.The offence is punishable under section 390 (4) of the criminal code CAP 29 laws of Ogun State.
EFCC also alleged that the ex governor used his position to fraudulently withdrew the sum of $1 million (USD) from the same domiciliary account of Ogun State with FCMB to buy shares in 21st Century Technology Limited.
The anti-graft agency also alleged that Daniel converted several billions of Naira meant for public use into personal use.
 Justice Mabekoje adjourned the EFCC lawyer, Mr.Jacobs respond to the bail application brought by Mr. Daniel's lawyer, Professor Taiwo Osipitan (SAN) and Mr.Tayo Oyetibo (SAN).

LATEST NEWS:ABDULMUTALLAB,NIGERIAN BORN SUICIDE BOMBER PLEADS GUILTY IN THE US

  Umar Farouk Abdulmuttalab, the Nigerian terror suspect who was caught in failed attempt to blow up an international flight near Detroit Airport, USA has pleaded guilty to charges brought against him by the American Government.
  When Addulmuttalab  was asked by the district Judge Nancy Edmunds, he pleaded guilty to the act of terrorism and attempted murder. Most people were shocked.This is Abdulmutallab's second day in court.He had earlier told FBI agents that he was sent by agents of Al-Qaida.He was influenced by Anwar Al-Awlaki the American born radical Muslim cleric killed in Yemen recently in a air strike conducted by the US.
 Mutallab, whose father is a rich businessman and former Chairman of First Bank Nigeria Plc, faces prison sentence up to life imprisonment.
 Abdulmuttallab was arrested inside a Northwest airlines flight 253 on christmas day in 2009 after the under wear bomb he targeted at all passengers of the flight and himself failed to worked.

CORRUPTION TRIAL:ALAO AKALA IN COURT, REPRESENTED BY 20 LAWYERS

Former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Alao- Akala was arraigned before an Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, today.
Alao-Akala was arrested last week over allegations that he  embezzled public funds that was put in his care when he served as governor of Oyo State.
 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission who brought the corruption charges against the Ogbomosho born politician said he embezzled the sum of about 11 Billion Naira (The current exchange rate of dollars to Naira is N154 to $1 USD)
Gistmaster gathered that Alao- Akala was not the only one facing the charges. A serving member of the National Assembly, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola and a businessman, Mr. Olufemi Babalola were also charged along with Akala who was popularly known as 'Oyato' Governor while in office.
  Senator Agboola was a former Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftancy affairs in Otunba Alao- Akala's last administration. The EFCC said he has questions to answer as far as award of contracts without budget provision is concerned.
 They were also accused of concealing the genuine ownership of two prime properties in London.
  The three accused persons pleaded not guilty and the lawyer for the EFCC, Mr. Godwin Obla asked the court to fix a date for the commencement of their trial. But Chief Bola Ayorinde (SAN) said he had already filed a bail application for Alao- Akala and the two other accused persons.
 The judge then adjourned the case till tomorrow so that the EFCC counsel can file his own response.He also said the should be remanded in the custody of the State Security Service.
Gistmaster gathered that former governor of Oyo State, Alao- Akala and the two other accused persons have 20 lawyers representing them, three of who hold the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (The equal rank to the Queens Counsel in the English Bar)

Try barbing part time, ushering part time or loan a small capital from a friend or uncle to start a small buying and selling business on the side.
