Beauty : Fab & Clever Makeup Tips

Makeup artists know all the secrets to looking great — those little tricks that can be picked up only by living in the beauty world 24/7 as they do. Fortunately, they're often as generous as they are knowledgeable. We talked with some of the best makeup artists in the business to get their best out-of-the-ordinary tips. (And no, we're not using the old "white eyeliner makes your eyes look bigger" thing. You've read it a hundred times.) Read on to see some of the best tips you haven't heard before.

Ditch the oil slick
-To keep shine in check,  always keeps blotting paper on hand. Some make up artists recommend one puts deodorant on the finger and dab under the  eyes and t-zone to help create a matte look."

Try a colored eyeliner
-Changing your eyeliner can make eyes look bigger and brighter,Try swapping black for plum, olive green or indigo,. Black can close up the eye and make it appear smaller, because darker colors make the eye recede. Some colors, even brown, can be softer."

Go for sheer foundation
-Adding aloe to foundation gives it excellent slip, get gorgeous. Sheer out your favorite base by adding a half a pea size of aloe to your foundation before you apply. Also, you can apply aloe to your face and while still dewy, spread on a little foundation. You're ready for summer!"

Style your brows, size up your eyes
-Use a powder to define the entire brow, but give extra attention to the center arch area of the brow, since this is the highest area of the brow, it tricks people's eyes into thinking your eyes look bigger. Use a brow brush to apply powder eye shadows that correspond with your hair color.

Create a wet look — for your lashes
"There’s nothing sexier than the way lashes group together when they’re wet, like after getting out of a pool. Here’s the secret to the look: Apply MAC Brow Set in Clear to the eyelashes first, and then top with a coat of black mascara." The result: grouped, wet-look, sexy lashes.

Leave your lipstick in place
The same product can be used to keep lipstick in check, MAC Brow Set in Clear used around the rim of the mouth will help prevent lipstick from bleeding,

Get Bambi lashes without mascara You don't need mascara to make your eyelashes stand out, To get voluminous-looking lashes, apply dark brown or black waterproof eyeliner to the upper rim of your eye — not on top of the lashes, but in between and underneath them. This gives the illusion of thicker, fuller lashes without having a lined eye."

BIG BROTHER AMPLIFIED WINNERS EMERGE NEXT SUNDAY

[caption id="attachment_6427" align="alignleft" width="500" caption="Karen Igho"][/caption]

The showdown and dash for the double prize to be won by two Big Brother Amplified contestants is hotting up as the reality TV show gears towards a climax next Sunday. (See the updated story here- Karen Igho and Wendhall are the winners of Big Brother Amplified)

Today is the last eviction, and ardent viewers are anxiously waiting to see who of the seven nominated housemates bites the dust before the finale – as it seems six will fight it out for the two 200000 (R1,36m) first prizes.

Ten contestants are in the house today. The nominated seven, the highest number since the show opened in May, are the house’s cassanova, handsome Lomwe of Malawi, Mzansi’s own cry baby, the erratic and unpredictable Luclay, Ethiopia’s unassuming, shy introvert Hanni, the house’s care-free man-eater Kim from Zambia, the big mouth Kenyan Millicent, the conceited Zimbabwe model Vimbai and her compatriot, and the only white man, Wendall, whose quietness only disappears after he’s had a tipple too many.

Safe and sound going to the finals is the outspoken viewers’ darling Karen of Nigeria, who has since changed her spots, Uganda’s reserved beauty Sharon O and the sophisticated and highly intelligent Nigerian Vina.

I predict that the likeable Lome and Vina will take the double first prize!

Come in Karen, after being the darling of the fans, she spoiled her chance of getting the loot in the final stretch this week.

Karen and Kim have been at each other’s throats since the game began, from calling each other names like poodle, to sl*t, it just doesn’t end with these two!

On Thursday, Karen and Kim had another spat that saw them throwing expletives . Kim then subsequently packed her bags and moved her bed to sleep with her supposed lover – Lomwe.

On Friday night Karen was in her element after a drunken stupor that led to her being dragged to her bed by Vina and Wendall.

Before the semi-naked Karen, went to sleep, wearing only an all-revealing pair of knickers, she threatened to break the karaoke equipment after one of the housemates hit the remote control.

Head of the House Vina jumped, telling Karen off, insisting that she was in charge of the equipment – as the week’s sheriff – and she didn’t like the way Karen wanted to mess the machine up , as the week’s sheriff.

While everyone was enjoying the party, Karen slipped upstairs to have a sobbing moment, claiming that she wants to go home.

Has the game become too much taxing for Karen, the darling of the viewers, to handle?

Out Karen, you’ve messed up in just one week and no moolah for you!

During next Sunday’s finale, the finalists will be pretty surprised to learnt that Amplified meant two winners for the first prize cash.

The Stick Up Collection by Qomé (season 1)

'This is the first of a series of designs that will be released under the Stick-Up Collection (season 1). This is Pako by Qome.
Pako (pronounced kpa-ko), is a man who, regardless of the mediocrity around him, holds his head high. His confidence in himself is often interpreted as arrogance and his response to accusations of conceit is a tongue-sticking out taunt .

The concept Pako was born from Nigerian Afrobeat King Fela Anikulapo’s song by the same name. While the general impression of a “pako” is someone hardened from poverty, Fela saw a pako as someone competent, someone who stuck to his strengths and excelled in his chosen field.

Medical Alert: Why “Bubbly” Motunrayo Committed Suicide

Initially, I didn’t want to write about this because there were a lot of negative  happenings at that time and didn’t want the blog to look “blue”. But sometimes, we need to face some issues eyeball to eyeball and deal with them, (hence our placing this in out Human Interest slot) .

A graduate of the University of Lagos, Motunrayo, was said to have committed suicide some time last week because her boyfriend jilted her. But we have just been enlightened by someone close to Motunrayo that the story was incomplete. According to the friend:
I actually know the deceased and she did not end her life bcos of a man as is being reported. She suffered from acute depression and a break up with her Bf amongst other things added to her depression. She had alot going for her and was always a bubbly extroverted girl, full of life.
She went abroad last year for her masters and started feeling very low and depressed alot but no one thot it to be anything serious. She later deferred and moved back to Nigeria. On her return she cut off from her friends, deleted almost all her bb contacts and would not return anyones calls, she hardly left her house and just felt detached and abandoned. She lived with her sister and soon later started giving her attitude which caused a rift between them. She didnt want people knowing she was back in the country and kept to herself. Nobody thought anything of it.

On saturday she said she was going to a friend’s house and instead locked herself in her room and hanged herself. Her body was only discovered until Monday. While the break up obviously added to her depression, it was not the sole cause of her suicide. She had family problems, had an operation to remove a cyst and was just generally disturbed by alot of things. She was to start a new job with MTN the same Monday and her father had recently bought her a new car.

I guess she got to the level where she felt no one cared and no one would even notice if she were gone. I mean she was dead for 2 days before she was even found. I feel suicide is a selfish act and an easy way out of life. People suffering from depression should be monitored and always around positive energy cos if not, you are silently killing yourself and its only a matter of time before they start thinking of evil.

It’s important we pay attention to those around us, so we can recognize when they need help. Suicide is actually an attack on the soul (mind, will and emotions) of a person. It should never be an option.

Acute depression is also quantified as a major depressive disorder. This is a form of clinical depression in which the symptoms are more intense and can even become life-threatening if the patient begins to seriously consider suicide. Professional medical help is encouraged for those dealing with acute depression, and treatment may include medication, lifestyle changes, counseling, hospitalization or even electro-convulsive therapy. A person suffering from acute depression may not be aware he is suffering from a treatable disease, so it may become vitally important for those around him to be aware of symptoms and signs.
