EX-MISS WORLD AGBANI DAREGO STEPS OUT WITH 'STYLOGENIC' A NEW STYLE REALITY SHOW

New style-focused Pan-African Reality TV Show hosted by former Miss World, Agbani Darego set to air this summer

“You better go and think of a real career!” That was the response that most African parents would give when their children suggested that they wanted to enter the world of fashion. Perhaps as a model, fashion stylist, fashion designer, photographer, makeup artist or even a fashion photographer.

An exciting new Pan-African Reality TV show – STYLOGENIC is set to propel African fashion and those that aspire to join the industry to greater heights.

STYLOGENIC is a show like no other. Rather than being based on the search for a top model or designer or stylist, the show is based around the concept of a style team! So contestants are going to be grouped in teams consisting of the various ‘style elements’. That is a model, designer, stylist, makeup artist, photographer and model. They will compete as a team and will battle it out with fellow teams for the grand prize!

The show recently held a media presentation in Lagos which was attended by the host, one of the most famous women in Africa – Former Miss World, Agbani Darego. Agbani won the Miss World crown in 2001, making her the first and only black African to ever win the title. She went on to have a successful modeling career which included a stint as a L'Oreal International “Face” and Spokesperson, numerous commercial ad campaigns and features in US Vogue and Essence magazine.

Entries for the show will open soon and entries will be accepted from all eligible Africans based on the continent and in Diaspora. The show will begin airing in September 2010.

Prizes are yet to be revealed but from what we hear, it’s MAJOR!

It promises to be an immensely exciting show!

DANNY GLOVER , OTHERS GROOVE AT LAGOS CARNIVAL 2010

Danny Glover, the actor fondly described as Dean of African American character actors is live in Nigeria, attending the Lagos Carnival. At the time of sending this report, the American star is having fun at the Tafawa Balewa,Onikan, Lagos where he is seated alongside Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and his predecessor in office, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other important personalities.
The carnival, which coincides with the Black Heritage Festival is the first of its kind in Lagos and it is seen as a huge success by many.There is a massive turnout and good organization. Just like the Eyo Festival, which took place last year and super headed by the Fashola led government, no cases of violence has been reported except for some minor issues.
Morayo,one of the attendees of the Lagos Festival told  gistmaster at the festival ground that it is a great plus to the Lagos State tourism potentials.  "I am very happy that something like this is happening in Nigeria. I am sure that there would be a huge turn out of Nigerians in diaspora in subsequent editions. It would also attract foreigners to the country. The security management is also wonderful" she said.
At the time of filing this report, Lagos Island is still in frenzy. What a grand way of celebrating the Easter Monday.

EX-COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER,ABUBAKAR RIMI IS DEAD

Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, a former minister of communications in Nigeria has been confirmed dead. Rimi, according to report gathered by gistmaster,  died from shock after an encounter with armed robbers in the northern part of Nigeria.
The late politician was said to be traveling  with three other persons in a Sport Utility Vehicle  when the incident happened. Though he was not shot or harassed by the robbers but we gathered they took his phones. The armed robbers were operating on the highway when they ran into them.He was so shocked that his high blood pressure shot up leading to stroke and his eventual demise last night at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
Rimi, a was a former presidential aspirant and also a former governor of Kano State durning the ill fated second republic.He was 70 years old.
A staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rimi would be remembered for his opposition to President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration,though he once served under the same government.
