HOW TIGHT IS THE SMVA?

Story & Photos by Niyi Tabiti
Chief Reporter

Right now, I am Warri; Delta State for a wedding .I left Lagos around 6 am on Friday but didn’t get to my destination until 6 pm because of the terrible state of the Benin-Ore road. The couples called me Australia about a month ago and I agreed to cover the event. The babe is from Warri, Delta State (Na correct Waffy chic) while the guy is from Ijebu in Ogun State.
As a matter of professionalism, I couldn’t change the arrangement because we already agreed!
However, I sent someone to cover the SMVA on my behalf…once I get the pictures, I will post them.
Last night, I watched parts of it on television. I saw the way the Psquare guys and their brother, Jude jumped on the stage when they won awards. I also saw the trio of Eedris ,Tony Tetuila and Eddy Montana of Remedies fame, when they came on stage to perform. What came to my mind is 'retired but not tired'.Mayb, they should go back to Kennis Music so that they can get all the attention again.Thats crazy!
ards. They won the best Choreography and Best Video of the year. Now, I believe they won’t go and shout that SMVA is a ‘Yoruba’ hip Hop awards.Atleast from comment; they would realize that each award organizers has its own parameters for judging.Afterall, Soundcity is owned by Tajudeen Adepetu and most of the key people there are Yoruba.
What surprises me most was that Nas, American based international rapper performed with the same kind of dress he wore when I took his pictures at the Airport on Thursday. Is that his new identity?
Please, I will keep you posted when I get the photos. If you watch it live, please send comments on what you feel about the event. Thanks!

  2. The show was not bad at all. Better than Hip Hop awards. Lots of glam people. They started late but there was a rumour that they may have lost a back stage hand. Don't quote me but he was apparently electrocuted. If it is through, then they did a fantastic job of coming back with a good show. Niyi, wey the pics now

  8. well Niyi i watched it live on AIT, it wasn`t bad especially when TY Bello was called for the 2 awards, it was obvious it wasn`t pre arranged as the shock and excitement was quite glaring, it however wasn`t properly staged as their were many "pauses" and waiting times in between the award presentations,D`banj `s jokes also continued for too long & became so boring,Though there is still room for improvements but it a was the first of it`s kind in entertainments, kudos to Tajudeen Adepetu & alphavision crew ..........

  10. SMVA 2008 wasn`t bad at all, i was highly impressed especially when TY Bello got her 2 awards, the shock and excitement was too glaring which shows that it wasn`t pre- arranged,D`banj `s jokes became unnecessarily long and boring ...., AIT`s commentries were distracting some of the stage speeches and viewers were unable to hear Presenters like Ramsey Noah & co, The "pauses" in between award presentations were too long for a live show,
Though there is lots of room for improvement but it is however a good start for niger entertainment, Kudos to Tajudeen Adepetu & the alphavision crew .....

  14. Did anyone notice the El something guy that was all over Nas on stage. The guy was irritating and was obviously behaving like a real fake...(which he is anyway) he was miming songs he didnt even know. Overall it was a good show except for long pauses in presentation times and AIT's commentary that were uncalled for during the show. Style was the worst performance thou...

  15. Niyi, P square took the best cinematography and not cheoreography. Always get your stories right, faze won the best choreography. This is to show you that they are not bad losers like you previously said, i wonder how you'll take your words back.Just stop beefing them abeg. They are too hot and that's why you tend to write about them all the time cos you sure will get replies, admit it.
