Christmas In Delta': Leisure Park Asaba Conclude Plans To Host First Ever Christmas Extravaganza

 The management of Leisure Park, Asaba in Delta State has come up with a unique plan to celebrate the 2023 Christmas in a never before seen manner.

A statement signed by the Park's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Godday Umukoro, disclosed that Christmas in Delta, is billed to be a sustained 45 days event which will commence on the 1st of December, 2023, and will run through to the 14th of January, 2024, across multiple locations in the 25 local government areas of the state.

The statement further revealed that the event will feature a 121 ft Christmas Tree (accalaimed to be the tallest in Africa), a Cultural carnival Parade, an armada of Santa Claus spreading the joy of christmas all over the state, Love Boats on the historic River Niger, Boat Regatta and Rowing Race on the crystal clear waters of River Ethiope.

Other attractions from the extravaganza are Drummers Battle, Multiple Christmas Villages and fun spots, Lego City, Train Rides, Music, Wildlife Tour and cultural dances that will culminate in a synchronised Fireworks Display across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state at the same time.

Speaking further, Mr. Umukoro said there will be days and nights of high impact music concerts, comedy shows and drama presentations asserting that Delta is the only place where the true spirit of Christmas will be in full rhythm and motion this year.

He therefore called on all Nigerians to take advantage of this event and make preparations to experience the uniqueness of the Delta warmth and hospitality this upcoming yuletide season

How suspect developed software to hack FCMB, withdraws over N17 Million

 The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on October 13, 2023, arraigned Michael Anan Onimisi before Justice R.M Aikawa of the Federal High Court, sitting in Kaduna for developing a software code named: “Bee-Leaf” and “Real-Eve” to defraud First City Monument Bank Plc, the sum of N17, 785,010.75 (Seventeen Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty Five Thousand, Ten Naira and Seventy Five Kobo only).

Onimisi was accused of developing the software to hack into the security measures  of the bank,  in order to defraud it.  He was arraigned on six- count charges bordering on internet fraud and money laundering.

One of the count reads “that you, Michael Anan Onimisi, sometimes in June, 2023, in Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did directly retained the total sum of N17, 785,010.75 (Seventeen Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty Five Thousand, Ten Naira and Seventy Five Kobo only), from First City Monument Bank Plc, which funds you knew forms part of the proceeds of an unlawful act, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18(2)(d)of the Money Laundering (Prohibition)Act, 2022 and punishable under Section 18(3) of the same Act”.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the six -count charges when they were read to him.

In view of his plea,  prosecution counsel, N. Salele, asked for a trial date and further prayed the court to remand the defendant at a Correctional Centre before the commencement of  trial.

Meanwhile, defence counsel, Rabiu Mohammed informed the court of an application for bail before the court. Salele objected,  pleading for more time to study and respond to it.

After listening to the arguments of both counsels, Justice Aikawa thereafter adjourned the matter till  October 19, 2023 for hearing on bail application and December 6, 2023 for commencement of trial.

He also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kaduna.

Trouble started for the defendant when the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC, received a petition from First City Monument Bank Plc, dated June 23,  2023 alleging that the defendant, sole proprietor of Ohoiza Crafts,  hacked into the bank system, and fraudulently withdrew money amounting to N17, 785,010.75 from the account of the bank, and transferred it to his account.

Protesters Invade King's palace, LGBTQ Rights Residence

 The traditional ruler of Asaga community in Abia state, Chief Emma Kanu Onugu has been removed following a violent protest led by some activists and community leaders. Allegations against the former traditional leader include corruption practices and inability to stop people with abnormal sexual orientation such as Lesbians, Bisexuals and same sex people (LGBTQ ) in the community.

 According to allegations, the traditional ruler was accused of mismanaging funds from various groups for in the community to build a new town hall and hiding culprits. 

  About four persons involved in LGBTQ activities in the community were almost lynched by an irate mob who stormed their various houses on October 7. Philip, a gay man and hairstylist, Ogbonna Churi, Ibe Ezukwe  and one Jane Ugo narrowly escaped being killed. Efforts to traced them has since proved abortive. 

  A source within the community said, same sex people, lesbians and bisexual people is a highly punishable offence in the community because it is against their customs and tradition. People caught are made to swear to traditional oath that often lead to their death or paralysis. Aside the community, the Federal Government of Nigeria also impose long  jail term for anyone involved in such act.
