LATEST:FOLAJOGUN ADESONA WINS SUPERMOM TV REALITY SHOW IN NIGERIA

A 61-year-old business woman, Folajogun Adesona, has emerged winner of the second edition of the Supermom reality television show. By virtue of this victory, she is now the proud owner of a well-appointed home in Lagos and other mouthwatering prizes. Theresa Nwaohu and Bessy Egbonbamwonyi whose stories were adjudged equally emotional and interesting emerged first and second runners up respectively.
While Nwaohu would get a brand new car, Egbonbamwonyi is already assured of N500, 000 cash prize. Nollywood actress and Onga Seasoning ambassador, Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, while announcing the winners, disclosed that the stories of the winning mothers are the stuffs best-selling movies are made of. “These are women who sacrificed their all just to ensure that their kids have a better life. They shelved their own comfort and career to give their kids the best. Today, they are being celebrated for their valour and sacrifices. It is my hope that other mothers across the country would emulate these women and continue to give their all to their kids,” Henshaw-Nuttal said.
For the past 13 weeks, viewers and lovers of the hugely popular show sponsored by  Procter and Gamble, Promasidor and Dufil foods; makers of Ariel  detergent, Onga seasoning and Indomie noodles, have followed the stories of 20 mothers drawn from across Nigeria on the African Independent Television (AIT) and  Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) networks. Adesona’s story, which came in the 11th episode, caught the attention of viewers who poured in appreciable number of votes and subsequently placed her miles ahead of other contending mothers. Adesona narrated how upon the death of her husband, her in-laws suddenly became antagonistic and meted out lots of punishments to her. She was denied access to her husband’s company, forced to withdraw her children from good schools and then placed on a paltry sum of N300 for their upkeep. Survival was hinged on varying menial jobs ranging from timber selling, block molding to food hawking among others. Fate would deal her another blow when her brother-in-law and wife died a year apart, leaving four children for her to cater for. All the ten children are now doing well in their different endeavours. And now, her sheer acts of kindness and love have brought her the coveted Supermom prize, and a life-long celebration of enviable sense of motherhood.
According to Sola Fajobi, Executive Producer of the show, “It’s been a wonderful moment for me. This is an improvement on last year’s edition and I’m so elated with the outcome. All the stories were heart-rending considering the numerous sacrifices made by the contesting mothers; my unreserved appreciation however goes to the sponsors who have made the show equally remarkable and available to millions of viewers across the country. Without them, these stories would never have been told; these mothers would never have been celebrated. However, we should always imbibe the culture of celebrating our mothers in any little way we can while they are very much alive.” But these mothers are not the only winners this year. Viewers who participated in the Hug for Mama competition, which compels viewers to snap a picture of themselves and their mothers in an emotional hug to a designated email address, won N50, 000 each. On the Celebrity Supermom segment, stories of celebrities like P-Square, Wasiu Alabi, Clarence Peters and Taye Taiwo whose mothers have influenced their booming careers graced the screen. Fajobi assured that winners will be unveiled properly in a grand winners’ party slated for the first week in December.

Karen Igho the controversial housemate in the Big Brother Amplified edition has been declared winner of the reality show, alongside Wendhall Parson of Zimbabwe. The two would share the $400,000(Four Hundred thousand US Dollars) grand prize.
Karen's triumph at the Big Brother Amplified edition made it the third time that a Nigerian would be winning the reality show. She also made history as the first Nigerian female winner of the widely acclaimed Africa's biggest reality show.
Karen, a self styled 'gangster' was considered the 'life line' of the Big Brother Amplified edition because of her because of the way she held the viewers spell bound.

Karen won with overwhelming votes from Nigeria, Angola, Rest of Africa, Ghana, Mozambique, Tanzania. Wendhal won votes cast in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya while Luclay won in South Africa and Botswana.

BIG BROTHER AMPLIFIED WINNERS EMERGE NEXT SUNDAY

[caption id="attachment_6427" align="alignleft" width="500" caption="Karen Igho"][/caption]

The showdown and dash for the double prize to be won by two Big Brother Amplified contestants is hotting up as the reality TV show gears towards a climax next Sunday. (See the updated story here- Karen Igho and Wendhall are the winners of Big Brother Amplified)

Today is the last eviction, and ardent viewers are anxiously waiting to see who of the seven nominated housemates bites the dust before the finale – as it seems six will fight it out for the two 200000 (R1,36m) first prizes.

Ten contestants are in the house today. The nominated seven, the highest number since the show opened in May, are the house’s cassanova, handsome Lomwe of Malawi, Mzansi’s own cry baby, the erratic and unpredictable Luclay, Ethiopia’s unassuming, shy introvert Hanni, the house’s care-free man-eater Kim from Zambia, the big mouth Kenyan Millicent, the conceited Zimbabwe model Vimbai and her compatriot, and the only white man, Wendall, whose quietness only disappears after he’s had a tipple too many.

Safe and sound going to the finals is the outspoken viewers’ darling Karen of Nigeria, who has since changed her spots, Uganda’s reserved beauty Sharon O and the sophisticated and highly intelligent Nigerian Vina.

I predict that the likeable Lome and Vina will take the double first prize!

Come in Karen, after being the darling of the fans, she spoiled her chance of getting the loot in the final stretch this week.

Karen and Kim have been at each other’s throats since the game began, from calling each other names like poodle, to sl*t, it just doesn’t end with these two!

On Thursday, Karen and Kim had another spat that saw them throwing expletives . Kim then subsequently packed her bags and moved her bed to sleep with her supposed lover – Lomwe.

On Friday night Karen was in her element after a drunken stupor that led to her being dragged to her bed by Vina and Wendall.

Before the semi-naked Karen, went to sleep, wearing only an all-revealing pair of knickers, she threatened to break the karaoke equipment after one of the housemates hit the remote control.

Head of the House Vina jumped, telling Karen off, insisting that she was in charge of the equipment – as the week’s sheriff – and she didn’t like the way Karen wanted to mess the machine up , as the week’s sheriff.

While everyone was enjoying the party, Karen slipped upstairs to have a sobbing moment, claiming that she wants to go home.

Has the game become too much taxing for Karen, the darling of the viewers, to handle?

Out Karen, you’ve messed up in just one week and no moolah for you!

During next Sunday’s finale, the finalists will be pretty surprised to learnt that Amplified meant two winners for the first prize cash.

DANCE 234…DANCE REALITY SHOW LIKE NEVER BEFORE

New set of dancers are set to emerge in the Nigerian entertainment industry, as KOGA ENTERTAINMENT presents ‘DANCE 234’, a dance reality show likened to no other for young people looking to pave their ways into history by dancing for a cause and of course for fame.

Dance 234 is bringing a refreshingly new dimension to the dance reality industry.  For the first time in the history of dance reality show in Nigeria, the focus will not mainly be on hip hop style of dance as most reality shows are known for; DANCE234 will accommodate all forms of dance style.

According to Jemila Musa, the producer of the show, ‘this is the first time a dance reality show will be accommodating all genres of dance and according importance to them. What we are looking for are pure dancers, we want you to come just the way you are. If the style of dance you are comfortable with is hip hop, galala, Fuji, highlife, traditional dance or what have you, our doors are open. As a matter of fact, we are more than willing to accommodate a new style of dance. What we want are dancers in their purest form and people who can sufficiently express themselves through dance’.

The contestants will have to convince the fierce and experienced team of judges that consist of Brandiny of ‘The Mask’ dance team, Preere Yibowei a Nigerian dance instructor and a yet-to-be disclosed foreign dance expert at auditions that will be held in Lagos, Benin, Abuja and Enugu in June. Sales of forms at N3000 start in the month of May nation-wide in all branches of Zenith Banks.

Twenty finalists from the auditions held in all four regions will be brought together in Lagos to battle it out on stage for the grand price of a car, N1 000 000 (one million naira), and a dance course abroad. First and second runner-up will get a N1 000 000 and N750 000 respectively. The lives of these twenty finalists will surely not remain the same as their skills will be brought to limelight in eviction shows that will be aired weekly on local and international TV stations.

KOGA is an entertainment powerhouse, consisting of four Audio-Visual ultra-modern Recording Studios with full HD and SDI cameras, Digital and Analogue audio, Editing and post-production suite, ultra-modern Event hall with capacity to seat 800 persons in banquet style, 1400 persons in theatre arrangement and 2000 persons in concert style and a Lounge designed for relaxation and entertainment.  KOGA is the brain behind ‘Dance 234’ and will be the sole production house for the show.

NINA,OLA EVICTED FROM NIGERIAN IDOL

[caption id="attachment_3448" align="alignleft" width="500" caption="Nina, Ola and Anis"][/caption]

...As Audu goes missing in action

Two contestants with the lowest votes were evicted at last Thursday’s result show on Nigerian Idol. The two contestants Nina and Ola were part of the contestants the audience voted in during the top 50 phase. While Ola made it to the final stage during the first group, Nina was the contestant with the highest votes in the fourth group.

But the Idol journey came to an end for both last Thursday as they recorded the lowest fan votes.

After their eviction was announced, the audience was treated to a recap of their journey so far, and it was an emotional experience for the judges and the contestants. Infact Bibi and George couldn’t hold the tears.

“It’s a tough decision to make, but if I had my way, I’d send Yeka Onka parking without looking back”. Yinka Davies said right before Anis announced Nina and Ola as the contestants with the lowest votes. “I think I’d go with Yinka, I totally agree with her on Yeka” Jeffery adds

But then, the format had to be followed. The judges no longer have a say, but the audience does, and so Ola and Nina had to leave.

Nina is a lawyer, but unlike most of the other contestants, she has a background in dance and not music. She has been a dancer since childhood and was a member of a dance group in university. The group also incorporated singing in their performances. The graduate of University of Nigeria Nsukka also manages a spa in Abuja.

Ola (Olamide in full) is the most laid back among all the Nigerian Idol contestants. The 22 year old undergraduate of Babcock University claims that even though he is the first to sing professionally in his family, his family members are involved in music, whether singing on an amateur level or just appreciating good music.

Before they left the competition, they performed for one last time.

Now with two people out of the competition, there are now 11 contestants remaining in the house. Expect things to get tougher and more exciting as these contestants slug it out for the final prize of 7.5 Million Naira and a record deal with Sony BMG.

Meanwhile, onlookers and ardent followers of Nigerian Idol were perplexed that judge Audu was not at the result show. And even though Anis announced that he missed his flight to Lagos, the questions won’t stop coming in“Did he know that a lawyer would leave?”, “Where is Audu”, “Whatever happened to Audu?” “Has Nigerian Idol sacked Audu”, “why do we just have two judges on the show today” were comments on twitter and facebook last Thursday.

Nigerian Idol is sponsored by Etisalat in association with Pepsi and Royal Exchange.

NEXT MOVIE STAR LATEST: FOUR HOUSEMATES EVICTED

[caption id="attachment_2330" align="alignleft" width="333" caption="Angel Justaz from Tanzania"][/caption]

Contestants in the ongoing Next Movie Star 2010 edition featuring 10 African countries  are now further convinced that nicking the top prize would not come on a platter of gold. Some days back, Tanzanian, Angel Justaz and Ghanaian hopeful, Dominic Duah were evicted from the show.

They joined Aimiuwu Adesuwa Clifford and Liberian, Harriett White who were evicted on Sunday evening.

According to Clifford who was inconsolable at this stage of the competition, "I am heart broken but confident in the fact that i am now better prepared to take on the acting world. I have been well trained and this is an opportunity i have been dreaming of all my life." In his own view, Dominic quipped, "Life goes on. i will go back to Ghana with my head held high because i have convinced myself and my family that i have a career in acting." There are twelve more housemates in the house battling for the fame and fortune at stake.

Now in its sixth year, the NMS continues to serve as a veritable template for unheralded talents to enter the Nigerian movie industry in grand style.

Over the years, the show has produced countless movie stars including Portia Yamahan, Tonto Dike, Annie Macaulay, Moyo Lawal, Eyo (who was on the last Project Fame West Africa), and Lydia Forson, the Ghanaian contestant in 2007 that went on to become a joint winner of the best actress award at the 2009 Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Kevin Chuwang Pam who won the 2009 Big Brother Africa was a first runner up in the NMS in 2006 while Uti Nwachukwu, winner of the just concluded Big Brother Africa All Stars, was first runner up in the NMS 2007 edition. The 2010 NMS would be broadcast on NTA network every day until December 10.
