Different stroke for different folks. While many Nigerians are planning to relocate abroad, foreigners are also planning to relocate here!
I recently had the opportunity to contact Dr.Tonya Merritt in her US residence. To confirm the rumor that she is OFFICIALLY moving to Nigeria in September. I have heard talk of her plans and I had the opportunity to confirm the info with her directly. The stunningly fashionable American woman is well known and respected by her peers.
She has been traveling to and from Nigeria for the past 4 years, (spending 80% of her time in Lagos in 2008 ) has finally decided to make the move. Because of her long stay of 1-2 months plus each time she arrives Dr. Merritt was only able to spend very little time in her London, Hampstead Flat last year. gistmaster.com is aware of several top Nigerian corporations that have approached her in the past, although she would not tell us WHY she finally decided to relocate.
She simply stated that " Niyi, you know I love Nigeria." I now have LIFE LONG ties to your country. I have wonderful friends and business associates. WHY NOT? Besides I will be closer to both London and Spain if I need a holiday. The soft spoken American would not make any further comment on WHOM OR WHAT has influenced her to make such a BIG MOVE.I briefly asked her about the well being of her friend who she describe more as a sister, HER EXCELLENCY, Onari Duke and the plans that they had for the Calabar Womens and Childrens Hospital. She only laughed and stated that you know we do at least 2-3 big charity events each year and nothing changed. We have an exciting lineup of artists who have never performed on Nigerian soil for late 2009.
Tonya, who is well connected in the Nigerian corporate circle, is set to launch new ideas into the entertainment industry and also help with charity work.Dr. Merritt was here in January 2009 as she worked with the foundation that was supporting the street children of Lagos. She booked both Donnell Jones and Carl Thomas for that hugely successful event and was kind enough to share a few photos of the artist and friends.Dr. Merritt told the gistmaster that she is traveling to South America for an upcoming event and that she has 2 shows with 50 cent coming up in South America later this Summer. She can never stay away from Nigeria for too long so I think it would be safe to say she will be here MUCH SOONER THAN LATER and hopefully gistmaster.com will bring you a full interview.

The Court of appeal today in Nigeria upholds the election of Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala as the governor of Oyo State. The governorship candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Senator Abiola Ajimobi, had dragged Alao-Akala to court over what he described as irregularities orchestrated by Alao Akala in connection with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).Ajumobi had earlier lost at the lower court but appealed against it.
http://www.gistmaster.com/ gathered that mix reactions continue to trail the judgment. There are many people who wished that the governor would have been sacked just like it happened to Osunbor and Agagu in Edo and Ondo state respectively. A source in the state house who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that a lot of people are happy because Alao-Akala was not sacked by the court because he is not stingy like some political office holders who oly spend for their family members alone. He spends for everybody so they like him. “Assuming his election was annulled, don’t be surprised to see many people hanging themselves because they can never find a generous man like him” he said
Zena, a staff of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and daughter of former Governor of Edo State,Chief Lucky Igbinedion and his wife Eki, got married to Ebeagbo Enaholo on Saturday 14 March 2009 in Benin City,Edo State.
We promise to serve you more intereting photos and gist from the event on http://www.niyitabiti.blogspot.com/ and www.gistmaster.com very soon.
Meanwhile here is the photo of the couple.Photo 2 shows Ara, the African culture ambassador durning her performance at the event. Watch out for the photos!

Newly appointed Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Virgin Nigeria Airline, Captain Dapo Olumide, this morning commenced a tour of media houses across the country.
Accompanied by Mrs. Nkiru Olumide-Ojo, the Head Corporate Communications and Sam, the media Relation manager, the team visited Newswatch Magazine on Billingsway, Oregun and Daily Independent Newspaper, Ikeja,Lagos, today.
The DMD explained that the tour is aimed at thanking the Nigerian press for it support over the years and to re-affirm its corporate commitment to customer value.
Olumide, whose experience in the aviation industry as a pilot spans over 25 years before he had a short stint in the banking sector describe as unfounded, speculations that the company is going under just because they stop long haul trip to destinations such as Dubai,London an South Africa. According to him, the new masterplan of the company is to utilize the vast potentials provided by regional routes.
He also explained that the company would rather consolidate efforts in ensuring that they adequately provide effective services to passengers going to places like Kinsshasha, Dakar,Banjul and other places in Africa.
When the time is ripe, we would go back on the long haul route with aircrafts that has modern facilities like bed and so on, he said.
He stated that Virgin Nigeria is healthy. The reason for the recent downsizing was because they stopped certain routes and there was no need to keep people on the payroll without offering value in return.
On the issue of why most Nigerian airlines are still finding it difficult to compete with their foreign counterparts, he explained that the facilities the foreign airlines get are usually long term whereas the ones given here are on short term basis. For instance, a foreign airline can buy an aircraft and buy over a period of say 25 years but here, that kind of facility is not guaranteed because the banks want their money back in say 5 years.
The DMD noted that contrary to reports in certain quarters that Sir Richard Branson has taken his share out of Virgin Nigeria, the British Millionaire still own 49 per cent equity in the company as at this moment.
Olumide and his team, were well received by the two media houses they visited today. Olumide, a former pilot for Mrs. Maryam Babangida in her days as First Lady of Nigeria, formally presented a 'Glide' the official in flight magazine the airline to the media houses.
At Newswatch, the team were received by the senior editorial exceutives led by Mr.Soji Akinrinade,Dan Abu and others.
At Daily Independent, they were received by a delegation consisting of top editorial executives such as the Chief Executive, Mr.Ted Iwere, Mr. Akpandem James,Musikilu Mojeed, Habeeb Haruna, Rotimi Durojaiye, Tunde Abatan and others.
