GUESS WHO IS BACK!WEIRD MC RETURNS WITH TWO 'BANGING' SINGLES

[caption id="attachment_2048" align="alignleft" width="500" caption="Weird MC"][/caption]

The bestselling rapper, songwriter, performer and entrepreneur who has
been working on her third studio album for years, premiered two
singles ‘Jehovah (Da Paper Song)’ and ‘Don’t Stop (Se were)’ at
09:07AM on November 9. Both singles feature Switch and Dr Pat
respectively; and were produced by Legendary Beatz.
Weird MC’s label is called 0907 – named after her birth day July 9.
And this is not the first time she’ll be playing with the 9th day in
premiering her songs or videos. This time around, her reps say, the
new singles were premiered globally on 9 radio stations and 9 websites
at 9:07AM on November 9.

‘She’s spent over 18 years in the game, sold over 10 million albums
and won hundreds of awards across the continent. She has inspired
dozens of female acts and stayed relevant despite all odds. She’s
Nigeria’s most daring female hip hop act and we’re happy to deliver
these gift – her new singles – to her loyal fans who have waited for
years for this album’ a statement from her label 0907/FK says.
The new singles are the final set of materials from her pending third
album ‘Broken Silence’. Earlier singles include ‘Riranwo’, ‘Step up’
and ‘Happy Day’ – both already bonafide hits and chart toppers on both
radio and TV. The album is scheduled for a late 2010 release.

Born Adeshola Idowu, Weird MC first gained national recognition in
1997 with her hit single 'Allen Avenue' which won her the award for
the Best Hip Hop act at the first edition of the Awards for Musical
Excellence (Amen awards) in October 2008, after which she went on a
long sabbatical. She made a comeback in 2005 with her monster hit 'Ijo
ya'. Her influences include Miriam Makeba, Femi Kuti, Lauren Hill,
Jimi Hendrix and others.

Her first album 'Simply Weird' was Nigeria's first full-length rap
album, earning her a position as a pioneer of the hip hop industry in
Nigeria.  And when many were expecting her to fall below standard with
her belated sophomore album 'After Da Storm', she took the game to a
whole new level, establishing herself as one of the continent’s most
amazing performers and a multi-faceted entertainer. With the new
achievements came brand statements like the elongated ‘gele’ which
remained her signature for years.

‘We’re back again’ she says. ‘People should get ready for the full
album. Yes we’ve just dropped two fresh bangers, but these are just
samples of what the full album will be like. It’s been so long coming,
I’m excited!’ Weird Mc says.
Weird MC has collaborated on stage and in the studio with the likes of
Femi Kuti, Lagbaja, Yinka Davies, Psquare, Don Jazzy, Tony Allen,
Wunmi, Kween and Ashley Beedle. She has also toured extensively with
the Shrine Syncro Sound System, Afro Celts, and with her own band,
taking Womex by storm and performing across the length and breadth of
Africa.

On record she has featured on 'Rhythmic Altered State' with RAS from
Berlin, Tony Allen’s 'Home Cooking' and the Original Afrobeat
Compilation. Her song 'Palava' has been included in two major global
vibes compilations: EMI's World 2003 (selected by Charlie Gillett) and
Peace Lounge Recordings' 'Pop d'Europe: Migrating Sounds In and Out of
Europe’. Weird MC also has a track (‘What Are You Waiting For?’) on
the Backbone Music compilation 'Have You Got Skills? Vol.1', a
collaboration with Africa On Your Street host JJC and his group 419
Squad. Her last album ‘After the storm’ featured on many respected
charts across the world and sold over 10 million hard and digital
copies.
