DANA PLANE CRASH IN LAGOS LATEST- LEVI AJUONUMA AND OTHERS ON BOARD-MINISTER OF AVIATION TO BRIEF JOURNALISTS

Dana Airline plane crash in Lagos is devastating to the entire nation.Gistmaster was at the scene and we saw thousands of Nigerians who came from far and near to get first hand report on what happened and the number of casualties. About 147 people were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.Houses,which included a two storey building and a church known as End Time Chapel Ministries were badly damaged and caught in flames as the Dana Airline coming from Abuja crashed with its belly on it.
Dr.Levi Ajuonuma,the general manager in charge of media and public relations of NNPC is one of those feared dead in the Dana airline crash.
In a bid to control the crowd at the scene of the crash,men of the Nigeria Airforce brutalised several onlookers,beating them like animals.
Gistmaster gathered that the minister of Aviation,Mrs.Stella Oduah has arrived Lagos and she would be briefing the media shortly.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's president Goodluck Jonathan has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the victims of the airline.

OBA OLADELE OLASORE IS DEAD


  The Aloko of Iloko Ijesha, Oba Oladele Olashore is dead. Olashore was a former Managing Director of First Bank Plc before he was appointed Secretary of Finance (An equivalent of Minister of Finance during the time of General Abdulsalam Abubakar as Head of State. Olashore also founded the well known Olashore International School in his home town of Iloko-Ijesha.
Oba Olashore also established Lead Merchant Bank and Lead Capital.
  Olashore would be remembered for his major contributions to his home town,investing his liquid cash and managerial experience towards the upliftment of the town.The traditional ruler died at the age of 77.

Nigerian to run for elections in New York

A Nigerian, Mrs Olanike Alabi will be running for the New York State Assembly elections in Brooklyn's 57th Assembly District billed for Nov. 6.

Alabi's parents are Nigerians from Oyo State, but she was born and raised in Brooklyn where she is currently an elected District Leader in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill area.

Speaking in an interview with the North America correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday, Alabi said that if elected `` I will fight for the issues most important to our community''.

According to her, this will include maintaining and protecting rent stabilisation, affordable public housing for families in the community.

The aspirant said she would also advocate for prevailing and living wage jobs and support workforce training and development programmes.

"I will continue to support efforts that will provide access to quality, affordable primary and preventive health care programmes that residents of the district can count on, fight for adequate funding for hospitals and community based healthcare and diagnostic and treatment centres,'' she said.

On education, Alabi said she would support reforms in the sector which would challenge and prepare children and youth, and place them on the right track to compete in a global economy.

"I will advocate for policies that will decrease class size, provide adequate services and resources to boost overall performance of our students and teachers," she said.

A product of the New York City public school system, Alabi was also educated at Temple University in London, and most recently, Cornell University's, School of Industrial & Labor Relations.

In 2006, she was elected as the Democratic State Committeewoman (District Leader) of the 57th Assembly District.

She was also elected by the voters of the 10th Congressional District as a pledged delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in support of then, Barack Obama and will be a delegate at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

CONTRACT STAFF PROTEST IN PROMASIDOR NIGERIA

Contract staff working with Promasidor in Nigeria yesterday protested what they described as delay in payment of their salaries.
 As a result of the protest, the management of Promasidor invited policemen to forestall a break down of law and order, which might lead to damages of the company properties. 
  Gistmaster gathered that two companies hire contract staff who work mostly in the production department for promasidor.One is known as Global Manpower while the other is called Sustainability.
  Those employed by Global Manpower have been paid their May salaries on the 23 May but those employed through Sustainability are yet to be paid. Sources hinted that the recent development is giving room to suspicions about politics in Promasidor, especially between the management of Sustainability and Global Manpower in a bid to out do one another in the business of staff sourcing.Sustainability is allegedly owned by
