GUINNESS ALLAY FEARS ON PRODUCTION CAPACITY

The management of Guinness Nigeria plc has assured the public, and mainly its consumers and distributors, that the fire outbreak in a limited part of the premises of the Brewery in Benin City, Edo state will in no way affect the production capacity of the brewery.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Babatunde Savage, the Deputy Managing Director, the company’s ‘’trained fire marshals were on ground to promptly put out the fire and prevent the spread to other sections of the brewery. There were no injuries reported and the incidence did not affect production at the brewery.’’

He stressed that operations continued as usual at all the company’s breweries and there has been no impact on production. ‘’Safety of life and property is a key priority for the company, therefore during the incidence, untrained persons were not allowed into the premises to avert any danger to lives.’’ He added.

As a responsible corporate citizen, Savage noted that Guinness is passionate about its consumers, and will continue to provide them with the highest quality of drinks from its award winning brands. He thanked their valued stakeholders that have expressed concern for the company over the incidence.

It would be recalled that the company recently won International gold awards from the International Institute for Quality Selection, Brussels, Belgium. The award went to Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Guinness Extra Smooth, Harp Lager and Satzenbrau products.

This recognition, a globally acknowledged endorsement for good quality, came at the height of the Institute’s 2007 world selection, and it saw four of Guinness premium brands getting the approval of the Institute’s Sensory and Jury Selection Board.

The brands won the quality awards in the following order: Guinness Foreign Extra Stout grand gold; Guinness Extra Smooth grand gold; Harp Lager gold and Satzenbrau gold

Living up their billing as international premium brands, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout and Guinness Extra Smooth were the only brands from Africa to win the top prize of Grand Gold.

Only last year as well, Guinness Nigeria Plc won the trophy for being the Most Celebrated Business in the Diageo International group after surpassing projections for its 2006 operating year.

Guinness is a subsidiary of Diageo Plc, the world’s leading premium drinks business with a large portfolio of beverages and alcoholic brands across spirits, wines and beer categories, and active in over 180 markets worldwide.
