I AM JUST SICK...!

I am just sick about this whole thing and I need to mention it here again.Someone wrote a comment the other day telling me that why did I tell people to quote or create a link anytime they take materials from here. Its either the person is mischievious or ingnorant of certain things.
Few days back, someone who has been following my work called me from Netherlands. The person informed that how come almost all my materials are also published on nigeriafilms.com? I got there and I was amazed because almost all my daily gist were published there. They even picked all the pictures on the hip hop world awards and they wrote 'photos submitted by Niyi Tabiti' (Please go to the photo gallery of nigeriafilms.com)
To make matters worst, they put their signature on my photos. If you are picking,do you have to pick 90 per cent of what is on the blog?' Secondly,do you have to put your signature on another person's job?Isn't that criminal?
Haba! No permission,no pay, nothing! If you work in the midnight, follow celebrities all over the place, battle computers and go through the trouble of posting these materials on the blog everyday, you will definately pity the operator of this blog.
I am just sick about the whole thing because it look as I have been working for soomeone without knowing it.In Europe and America that we all try to copy, there is always a procedure to how certain things are done. How can I have an online journal and another online journal picking 90 cent of what I post on their own website.I am just sick...!
My friend who wrote that comment, please I am not bragging but I am very consistent in what i do and I try to be ahead.People should respect other peoples work.If I hurt you by writing this piece I am very sorry, there is no other way to press for my intellectual rights.
Some people have been good enough to pick one or two things and they acknowledge us well.I thank 'Aunty' Funmi Iyanda because her link brought alot of traffic back to the blog when she reproduced Omotola's photo on her http://www.fiyanda.blogspot.com/. I also thank Tribune Newspapers,Punch Newspapers,The Nation Newspapers and First Weekly magazine for quoting from the blog at one time or the other.
Well, tommorow in Lagos,Nigeria,Erelu Ojuolape Ojora would mark her 70th birthday,Shaggy will also be performing in Lagos.Ade Bendel and Friends will also have a show at Eleko Beach.

Thank You.

  3. niyi darling it's okay i feel ur pain. believe i have my own pics in peoples blog and dont even give me the bloody credit. just know u have thousands of fans out there in europe , America and africa who know ur work where its stolen or not

  4. that is what the oyinbo pple call plagiarism, the act of stealing someone elses work without aknowledging that it is someone elses work. u can be sent packing from school for doing that and no other school would be willing to accept you. what are mass comm and journalism students being taught in school these days ehn?

  5. Nigeriafilms.com have been stealing for years so welcome to blogville. The owners are also pirates based in Europe. Hardcore criminals. No use whining about it if you have no money to chase after them. Your folks will get tired and stop coming here if all you do is whine.
I definitely know that the people behind the site will die slow painful deaths for living off other people's sweat.

  6. I'm very disgusted at the level of 'plagiarism'. You'd have thought that these people based in Europe would have better journalistic integrity. Threaten them with legal action (and actually consider going through with it) - you know 'oyinbo' courts don't joke with things like that. Anyhoo, well done and keep up your work!

  7. Niyi, I totally agree with you.
You have a right to protest against people using your work without permission plus at least a link back.
All these websites should have some integrity and do they right thing.

  8. aww! pele Niyi. I can imagine ur pain after going i went to visit nigeriafilms.com. Those that are stealing his work without respecting his Copyright- STOP!! Haba!If u steal someone's work without permission, someone else will steal what u sweated for(Imagine how painful that will be). It's not a curse. Just reality. So step into line and do what's right.

  9. Niyi! I saw the pics at http://nigeriafilms.com/album.asp?album_id=1052&action=view&menu_id=
and they are not been professional. If you copy someone else photos and you now write link on the pictures. They have say "these photos was from Niyi's blog" and link back. Simple and easy.
Don't let this stop your work.

  10. Hey Niyi (I don’t know if that is your name…just guessing from your blog name)…

I just want t tell you to keep your head up and keep doing what you do… I’ve been an avid reader of your blog since you started and I’m going to continue to read it…

I don’t know how things are in Naija, but there should be some copyright laws in place for people who “steal” from other peoples blogs…

Like I said, keep doing what you do… I’m sure you know this blog is widely read around the globe, so if you give up…a whole lot of us will be disappointed :(

So please stay on for our sakes…just brush your shoulders off and do the damn thing!!!

    You’re the Best!

  11. Dear Niyi,

You are really doing a great job and I am sorry abt pple copying your work without giving you due acknowledgement for your sweat. It’s insulting for nigeriafilm.com to write "submitted by Niyi". Isn’t there a way you can take it up with them? There must be.

  12. call me ignorant but i was the one who was curious as to why you had your knickers all tight up-, and i frequent many blogs and nigerianfilms is one of them plus several other sites and always saw the same photos there so i got confused. But excuse my ignorance as you so put it, i did not understand why iwas seeing these photos in all these numerous blogs (at least 6 other blogs) and seeing it on here, yet you screaming for a shout out cos you took the photos. So now that you put nigerianfilms on blast, i do believe the fotos are really yours and as such i say "Respect to niyi", but in all honesty, who cares who took what when how. We just want gist. We really dont care who took the photos. So if u want to vent - go vent to these sites directly and leave us readers alone. Makes you sound very nitpicky like hillary clinton ;lol. -But once again - i say respect to you for allya hard work. It just surprise me how sometimes i see the photos on those sites first b4 i see it here. Very strange. I love ya site though. bad bad to all those stealing ya work. shame on them

  13. must be your very own nigerian 419brothers and sisters , stealing your work.

    I say you SUE them

  14. eya pele...if u dont want people to use ur pics without ur permission..u can put watermarks on them so they cannot be copied!!! and they'll be forced to pay or ask for ur permission!! i know copyright laws in nigeria are not that strict!! so i think u might have to take matters in to your own hands!

  15. Niyi, you do have a right to rant and rave about this. It is your hard sweat and people should respect that. Plagiarism is a crime and the culprits should be lucky that you're only giving them a polite warning. Next time, please seek criminal compensation against the plonkers! WTF?!

Keep up the good work bro. We, your loyal readers, respect your work. Linda is a good friend of mine also and introduced me to your blog. Please don't be discouraged ny all this.

    Well done!!!

I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY COS ITS SO ANNOYING BUT NIYI, EVEN IF NO ONE SEES, JUST KNOW THAT GOD SEES. VENGEANCE IS MINE SAYS THE LORD. A LOT OF PEOPLE LOOK TO YOUR BLOG FOR CONSTANT HAPPENINGS AND YOU DELIVER AND NO MATTER WHATEVER COMPLAINTS THERE ARE, PEOPLE JUST KEEP COMING TO YOUR BLOG. 18. You should send a message to Nigeri films or whatever they are called. Get a lawyer, and threaten to sue them. I mean nigeria must have copy right laws somewhere. Good luck sha, and please dont let thieves stop u from doing ur work.

  19. you know there's a way you can make people unable to copy images on your blog? as in they won't even be able to right-click pictures...that way people who want to share stuff that's on your blog will have to copy and paste the LINK of the article not the actual pics themselves, forcing people to have to come to your blog directly to look at your pics and stories.

Blogger probably gives that option, look into it. Try right-clicking pics here http://www.splashnewsonline.com/ to get what I mean.

    Cheers...

  20. Sorry about the piracy thing, It really can be upsetting. Someone also vented on Nigeriavillage square about seeing his article in a Nigerian paper with someone else's name. It's sad cos those things are taken so seriously in the Western world. I don't know why Nigerians are always the last to follow. Hopefully one day we will. Do not let it deter you, just keep aiming at doing waht you do and getting better, someday there will be blog protection rights. And webjournalism will be big as it is becoming big here. All the best.

  23. hey
Dont even be fazed...theres a clear difference between the head and the toe, and thats why you will simply remain ahead at what you do, its there pride and lack of creativity combine with lazyness and zero wisdom that make such individuals act in a "jankoriko" manner, we love, love, love and appriciate ur work and are always waiting to see ur next post and picture...but this one wey (ur just sick )for 2 days now, i beg hurry up and stop thinking about them ...they are inconsequential....keep feeding us with that lagosly flava.....holla
