The judge then adjourned the case till tomorrow so that the EFCC counsel can file his own response. He also said the should be remanded in the custody of the State Security Service.

NIGERIA BANS SAME SEX MARRIAGE

Unlike some parts of Europe and United States where same sex marriage is legally permitted between homosexuals and lesbians, the Nigerian Government has condemned it, saying that the practice is immoral and ungodly.
Gistmaster gathered from the bill passed today by the Nigeria Senate (upper house of parliament), anyone who contract same marriage would be arrested and charged to court. The punishment attracts jail term. Anyone seen to have also encouraged such marriage would also be punished jailed but with an option of N50,000 as fine.
President Goodluck Jonathan will have to sign the bill before it can finally become law. Those in the know strongly believe that Nigerian president will not think twice before signing it into law.

BABANGIDA SAYS OBASANJO IS A FAILURE, OBASANJO CALLS IBB A FOOL AT 70

IBB was the first to release his 'bottled' anger against ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 70th birthday anniversary. He called Obasanjo's regime a total failure but a response from Obasanjo gingered the interest of the public when he refered to the Babangida as a fool at 70.

Obasanjo who spoke with news men in Abeokuta during the visit of an American Team on an inspection of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) said that his initial thought was not to respond but that on second thought he decided to reply Babangida so that he (Babangida) would not consider himself wise.
                            IBB IS A FOOL -OBASANJO
Well, normally when I read these things I don’t believe them. Yesterday when somebody phoned me and said this was said, I said I don’t believe it. He said check on all the papers and I said get me all the papers; they got me the papers and I read; it’s a little bit unlike Babangida. But if Babangida had decided on becoming a septuagenarian, that he will be a fool, I think one should probably do what the Bible says in Proverbs chapter 26, verse 4. It says, don’t answer a fool because you may also become like him.

“When you go to the same Proverbs chapter 26, verse 5, it says answer a fool so that he will not think he’s a wise man. So, I am now torn between which of the two verses I should follow in this respect. Some of the things he said unfortunately were not well thought-out.
“For instance, he talked about our energy.
When I was the military head of state, I built Jebba dam; built Shiroro dam, I prepared the foundation of Egbin plant which President Shagari completed and commissioned. That time the money we were making was not up to the money Babangida made annually for his eight years and yet we built two dams.
Because it was important, you know that power is the driving force for development and for any developing country. But since the building of Egbin power plant, until I came back in 1999 there was not any generating plant for almost 20 years and Babangida spent eight years out of that. Now, he has the audacity to talk about anybody; I think that is unfortunate.”
IBB deserves pity, sympathy
“I also read where he said in his time, he gave the dividends of democracy and at the same time he regretted. When I read that, well I said Babangida should be pitied and shown sympathy rather than anger or condemnation because the old saying says a fool at 40 is a fool forever and I would say a regret at 70 is a regret too late. Well a regret at 70 is a regret to the grave.
“Then as elected president, I built Papalanto, Omotosho, others and I started five of what they called Independent Power Stations which were stopped for two and a half years. Now the present administration has started building a new power project at Uyo.
As a country, Nigeria should be adding nothing less than 1,500 megawatts annually. South Africa with a population of 50 million generates 50,000 mega watts. Nigeria with a population of about 165 million we are not generating, we as at 1999 met 1,500 mega watts before we took it up to 4,000 mega watts. What we started they are now allowing it to go on. I believe if they continue with the programme that we left, In another two years , we will get to 10,000”.
Obasanjo on sale of Nigeria Airways
Commenting on disclosures by erstwhile Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, BPE, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai that he, Obasanjo stopped the sale of Nigeria Airways as President, Obasanjo said:
“I blocked the sale of Nigeria Airways, not that I attempted to block the sale of Nigeria Airways. When I was military head of state, Nigeria Airways had 32 aircraft, by the time I came back as elected president of Nigeria, Nigeria Airways had only one aircraft.
“One of the 32 was a wide-bodied aircraft, they had all gone and the report on which we worked is here, the amount of money we will have to pay if Nigeria Airways was sold, what we would get out of it is less than 10 percent of the debt we have to pay.
That would be the debt Nigeria tax payers will have to pay; that will not be the way to run the affairs of this country. I won’t run my own affairs that way, so I opted for liquidation. So, it was bankrupt, it was liquidated; in which case whatever you gain from liquidation which is also a form of sale, it means the burden will be shared by all the creditors and everybody.
So, if I owe you 10 dollars and what I sell when I am liquidated is two. That’s what you get. So, I did not allow normal privatization or sale because it would have put very heavy burden on Nigeria.
“So, Nigerians should know that and in fact my administration should be commended for that. It’s not that I did not allow the sale because the law establishing it says sale and liquidation is also a form of sale”.
   IBB's REPLY
Babangida in a riposte through a press statement issued by his spokesman, Prince Kassim Afegbua said:
“It is certainly not in the tradition of General IBB, such a refined gentleman officer; to join issues with his subordinates’ and superiors, but for the price we owe history, this riposte becomes appropriate and necessary.
We expected Chief Obasanjo to react to the substance of General Babangida’s submissions and not deploy this distractive strategy to shy away from the real issues at stake. The statistics of the government they both ran at different times, speak for them.”
“The history of Chief Obasanjo is an open sore that is irredeemably contrived in several incongruities and contradictions. When he pleaded with IBB to be given another chance to extend his tenure, IBB was not a fool then.
When he was released from prison and granted state pardon, bathed in cerebral ornaments and clothed in royal beads and later crowned as President of Nigeria, IBB was not a fool then. Now that he is at the extreme of his thoughts and engagements, he can decide to dress IBB in borrowed robes.
But the histories of both of them, when put to public scrutiny comparatively, IBB is far glowing and instructively stands poles apart from Obasanjo. In terms of decency, finesse, class, distinction and general conduct, IBB could be described in the superlatives but for Obasanjo; God bless Nigeria.”
A witless comedian
“For a man who cannot possibly tell his true age, one may excuse his present outburst as the effusions of a witless comedian trying effortlessly to impress his select audience.
On the issue of performance, Obasanjo cannot contemplate a comparism of his conquistadorial and largely acquisitive regime that plundered our hard-earned state resources, with that of IBB government with verifiable record of achievements. Despite the fact that he carried out a clinical investigation of IBB’s regime, what did he establish against him? Nothing!
We wish to refer Obasanjo to the National Assembly to give his own side of the story to the several revelations that have become themes of his
orchestra when he held sway as President of Nigeria. Perhaps, he would be able to tell the world how he managed Nigeria’s resources during his regime.
“Chief Obasanjo should ponder on these incontrovertible facts: The revenues that accrued to former President Obasanjo during his eight years are more than those that accrued to the nation from independence till 1999 before he took over.
Despite such stupendous wealth of the nation, what was his performance profile? The number of high profile deaths by assassinations and politically motivated killings during Obasanjo’s eight years is more than any other in the history of this country.
Besides, is it not curious that after Obasanjo’s exit, there has not been any reported case of plane crashes? What was his human rights record? The people of Odi in Bayelsa State and Zaki-Ibiam in Benue State are yet to recover from the massacre visited on them by Chief Obasanjo.
Again Crude Oil sold for as much as $180 dollars per barrel for the better part of his eight years, what benefit did Nigerians derive from such excess crude? With the revelations coming from the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly, Nigerians are now coming to terms with the profligacy of the Obasanjo era.
“Against the backdrop of the above, it is ludicrous for him to raise any intellectual debate on the achievements of the governments they ran at different times in the life of the nation. Calling IBB “a fool at 70” is at best a compliment. Nigerians surely know who is truly a fool or the greatest fool of this century.”

Latest News in Nigeria-President Goodluck Jonathan has said the newly sworn-in Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and other professionals in his cabinet pulled from the Diaspora will not be paid in foreign currencies.
The president disclosed this in his remarks on Wednesday shortly after the swearing-in of Okonjo-Iweala as Finance Minister in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
"Let me also thank other ministers brought in from the Diaspora, we know it is quiet challenging to move from developed countries to Nigeria.
``The question sometimes asked, and I know for Ngozi it is quiet embarrassing, is that when she accepted to serve, it was in the media that she gave conditions to be paid in dollars.
``Let me formally announce to Nigerians that she accepted to serve just like any other minister and indeed others who came from the Diaspora have not asked us for dollar salary.
``They are going to receive salary and allowances like others in the cabinet. They are coming to serve the country and are not coming because of their personal aggrandisement,'' he said.
Jonathan also explained that he invited the former World Bank Managing Director to serve in his cabinet not just as Finance Minister, but to coordinate all economic activities of the Federal Government and by extension all the states.
He disclosed that the Finance Minister will henceforth coordinate the Federal Government Economic Management Team comprising 24 members with the President as the Chairman and the Vice President as the Vice Chairman- source-NAN

NIGERIA:WHY GOVERNOR OKOROCHA APPOINTED ME CHIEF COMEDIAN OF IMOSTATE-UCHE OGBUAGU

The governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was heavily criticized for appointing too many political aides. One such was the appointment of Uche Ogbuagu as Chief Comedian of Imo state. This is an unprecedented position in the history of politics all over the world.

Here,Uche Ogbuagu the chief comedian answered questions posed to him by Joi John of Imo State political blog.

Q: Your appointment as Special Assistant in the State came under scruitiny
with the Portfolio as Chief Comedian in the State. Could you enlighten us on
your Office as Chief Comedian of the State?

A:As you know, the Entertainment
industry cannot do without Comedy so, I see myself as the only
representative of the Entertainers in the State Executive council.

The office of the Chief Comedian is a representation of the Entertainment
industry in the State Executive Council. In this position, I am saddled with
the responsibility of ensuring that the Entertainment Industry in Imo state
is revived. That particular area has been dead for quite a long time. We are
doing our best to to bring in Private investors from within and outside the
Country to see ways we could take Entertainment in the State to the next
level.
Q:What are some of the notable highlights of your First week in office?

A:I started off with a tour of the State Capital to ascertain the true situation
of things. I visited a number of Entertainment places owned by the State
Government. Recently, I inspected the AMA J . K recreation Park and was
saddened by the condition of the place. It is almost in shambles.

I started out with AMA J K recreation Park because it is at the center of the State Capital and has potentials to generate income for the State.
Q: Could you give an insight to some of the Projects you envision to achieve
in reviving the Entertainment Sector?

A:To start, we are going to build Comedy Corners around the State capital. I have also had talks with some Private investors towards the  project for an Amusement park.I am also
proposing a name Change. This is a Rescue Mission and when you want to be
rescued, you must be ready to be renamed. In fulfilling the plans I have for
the Entertainment sector, I wouldnt want to depend on funds from the State
Government. That has been my promise from day one.

Apart from AMA J.K recreation park , I observed that there was also another piece of land that the former Government intended to build a Park on . We will take over from
where they left off and build a  Park specifically for the Kids because that
has been a gap in the Entertainment industry in the State.  The kids do not
have a play spot. You find that on Weekends, parents would take their
Children to neighbouring States when we can create the same structures here.
It is time for us to give the Children a sense of belonging. I want to go on
record to state that the IMO AMUSEMENT PARK is going to be the center of
attraction for all  Children in the State and beyond and,  that would be one
of the legacies I would be remembered for.His Excellency has asked for me to
draft a proposal and submit to him for his Perusal. That, I will do in less
than 48 hours from now.
Q:What do you make of this opportunity to serve the State?
A:I am seeing this particular portfolio as the only opportunity I have in
life to prove myself. Should there be any other opportunity, I wouldnt mind.
I am not looking for anything higher than this but if it comes my way, Glory
be to God.With the confidence and trust reposed in me by the State
Government, I dont have any reason to fail.

I want to assure all the
citizens home and abroad that , the Lost Glory of Imo State is about to be
retrieved.I can confidently state that the office of the Chief Comedian of
the State and Special Assistant to the Governor is one that will be most
successful. At the breifing we had on Sunday with the Chief of Staff, I
reassured His Excellency who was also present that, in 90 days he will be
marvelled at the progress in the State as far as Entertainment is concerned.

Q: On a personal note, I read you were born a Stammerer but it is almost
impossible to believe that. Our interview has gone so smoothly and I havent
heard you stammer through any question. How were you able to overcome that?

A: (Laughter) Well, I stammer only when I am tensed up and under pressure.
Mostly when I am broke. When I no get money. That is where nature surprises
me a whole lot. I stammer ordinarily but once I am on air . . . on the
Microphone or I am performing, everything dies off so I believe I am a
Microphone person and that is the reason why my stammering will always
respect my business and my calling.
Q: What are your final words to the Critics?

A:  Most people in different
quarters look for ways to pull me down. They say Uche Ogbuagu is not
learned; he cannot speak good English and so forth. . . but, that it is
typical. Normally, nothing good comes easy. One cannot know the strength of
the other unless he has been put to Test. As a result oriented person, the
important thing for me is results and I believe confidently that I am going
to succeed. I will prove every naysayer that has been against my
appointment, wrong and whosoever has spoken bad about me will turn around to
speak good of me.

Nigeria's President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan invited Nigeria Youth to have lunch with him at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. Gistmaster was one of those at the event. Jonathan answered questions posed to him by Chude Jideonwo, Audu Maikori of Chocolate City and others.
Mr. President told us that he would keep to his electoral promises. Gistmaster will bring you more photos from the event later. A lot of celebrities were there. Here we bring you the different faces of star actress Genevieve Nnaji at the event. By the way, D'banj did not accompany here!lol

He also said that the issue of electricity, unemployment and other issues  would be adequately tackled. I Just pray that the man and his team will do more this time so that Nigerians will reap the true dividend of democracy.
